The Dunlop Latex Process
Mattresses play an essential role in our day-to-day lives. They provide people with comfort and with a place where they can rest and recover strength to perform daily tasks. However, the tremendous importance of mattresses is an aspect most of us usually underestimate, but it is so essential (yet obvious) that not regarding it appropriately can severely affect our everyday lives.
This is because everything we do would not be possible if we didn’t had the strength to do it, and all the strength that we gather is owed mainly to a good rest. This is why ensuring we have the best possible resting period is of such importance and why having the best mattress for that is so necessary.
Thankfully though, mattress companies like Select Foam recognize the real importance of a well-made mattress and as such, provide the best components in their making. One of the most important of such components is the latex layer that sits at the bottom of each mattress. This layer of latex performs and essential function providing a solid bottom part to the mattress. This latex layer also serves as a support element when paired with the top foam component of every mattress, which is yet another reason why it is so important.
Now, taking this into consideration, it is only natural to assume that a lot of thought and consideration is put in the way these latex layers are produced, since mattress manufacturers will want only the best products in their mattresses. So, when it comes to the way latex is manufactured, there are some production methods that take the spotlight for being more efficient, economical or traditional. Among these, two particular processes stand out, the Talalay method, which is the most modern of them both, using more advanced production technologies that in turn, increase its price in the market. However, lots of people seem to be showing preference for this modern method of latex manufacturing, even if it doesn’t actually offer any noticeable advantage over the other kinds of latex.
This second method of latex manufacturing is called the Dunlop latex process, and it has been around for far longer than the other method mentioned already.
One of the main characteristics of this latex production method is that it uses mainly natural latex. But before it can be properly called Dunlop latex, this component has to go through its very characteristic production process.
First, the rubber has to be extracted manually from rubber trees and carried over to the factory where it is frothed as part of the process but also as a sanitary procedure. Once the frothing is over, the latex liquid is poured inside a mold where it cools down and starts to take its final shape. It is in this step of the process where the Dunlop latex acquires its defining characteristic, which is its solid bottom, a consequence of the residues precipitating to the bottom of the mold at this stage.
Thanks to the organic way (with barely any interference in the process) in which this latex is manufactured, all items made of Dunlop latex are somewhat more dense than those made with latex manufactured in other ways. No method has neither proven nor outstanding advantages over the other. In fact, it all comes down to the taste and preference of the customer, but it is always good to know that there are mattress companies out there, like Select Foam, which are proficient in the selection of the best latex (regardless which method was selected to manufacture it), for inclusion in their mattresses.
